TESTIMONIALS
CHRISTINA G, Manager for Transitional Youth, Stars Community Services
We work with youth who are just coming out of hospitals or jails. We do outreach work in the communities. We work with families to help them get jobs or get into a routine. We work very closely with the psychologists on staff.
The majority of our clients live in boarding homes. Stars works closely with these facilities, as we are the only transitional program in the county. We have become the provider of choice for the county.
There is a need for this type of program in many counties, which makes Stars unique.
There has been a lot of progress with our clients. One story is one of our clients has had numerous attempts at suicide. She can't handle her emotions, but doesn't really want to die. There are a lot of family dynamics in her situation. We are in contact with her every day and visit her at least once a week. At this point it includes the family, not just her. I think we have made some great progress with this family. No one else wanted to touch her, but we did. It really showed that we gave her the ability to communicate her angers and frustrations.
I love the work I do. I went to school to do this and I love the challenge. Every day is different. We work together as a team. I couldn't ask for better co-workers and supervisors. I love the work in mental health.
With this work I can get up in the morning and feel like I am doing something really good. We really go out there and be with our clients. There is direct contact with them and it shows.
Within Community Services, the support is unbelievable. The staff is extremely qualified. We work together well and do our best. If we have a weakness in doing something, others on staff will pick up and utilize their strengths, without even asking. It's all intuitive between us.
