OUR STARS

Our Families

  • Our community treatment programs focus on keeping clients with their families. We have been fortunate to be able to utilize parents, relative caregivers, legal guardians, neighbors, and extended families in helping our community treatment youngsters.
  • We have been very successful in bringing these clients closer to their communities and their families. For clients who don't have a family, we try to create one.
  • Each of our residential programs include a family outreach program, family support groups, and a "parent partner" available to support other parents.
  • Most of our residential treatment clients have been removed from their biological parents and alienated from their families for many years. If it were not for our residential programs, these clients would be in acute care hospitals or state hospitals.

A young man was walking along a beach one morning, when he saw an old man carefully picking up something and placing it out into the ocean. Curious, the young man asked the old man what he was doing. "I'm a star saver!" he said. "Do you see all these starfish that washed up on the shore during last night's storm? I'm saving them, by helping them back into the ocean, so they won't die." The young man looked around, and saw so many starfish on the beach. "But there must be hundreds of them. You'll never make a difference," he told the old man.
The old man quietly reached down, picked up another starfish, and carefully placed it into the ocean again, and said "I made a difference with that one!"

Testimonials

Mary - Client's grandmother
"STARS is a very valuable program for parents and grandparents, like me, who have kids with special needs. The staff is very well-trained and courteous and they have been really supportive of my grandson. And they listen. That is really, really important."

Oscar - Client's Parent
"I didn't know what it would be like here for my child, but I thought it would be good to give them (STARS) a chance. I'm glad that they are in the program. I wish there were more services like this."

Bonnie - Client's Grandmother
"I am so happy that (he) has come here. I have seen a big improvement in her behavior and her anger is much more under control. I know she will continue to improve with the attention that she gets from the staff here."

"This company is about the children and the families first. This is very rare; especially with the economy now."

William W., TBS Coordinator, Star View Community Services

Statement From A Parent
"I didn't know what it would be like there [at Starlight Adolescent Center] for Oscar, but I thought I should give it a chance. Now I'm really glad he's in the program. I've seen a big improvement in his behavior and his anger is much more under control."
Statement From A Parent Partner
"Parent Partners are people who work for the family as a liaison to Star View. This program is what sets Star View above and beyond the rest of the social service programs. It allows for the family to have a voice.…We had one girl who wanted to run away and become a prostitute. We came in and 'wrapped around' the family and created a team. It was like winning the lottery for me, to see the situation change."
